[Philadelphia, PA] Low Cut Connie consist of some six, seven band
members – mostly rock instruments and then a real and verified piano. They put
on a very live show – lots of rock mojo, a little homoeroticism, bits of camp,
audience involvement. The piano player and main vocalist was a centerpiece, standing
on his piano bench in flamingo stance, suggesting things with his hips,
throwing plastic chickens into the audience.
This band is a lot of fun (like my grandma would have said). I kind of
want to call them a bar band because they’re really good at a lot of different
sounds but that’s not fair because they’re better than that – they are tight, but
they have a persona/sound I couldn’t really pin. Reviews that describe bands with
every sound or band possible are always a cop-out to me but here I go…. this
band is a blend of Elton John, Louis XIV, southern rock boogie, Rocky Horror
Picture Show, rockabilly, heartland rock, garage, disco. I’m not kidding – this
band is all of these things. I’m not sure it’s a good thing – I would never
pursue them because I need to understand who a band/person is before I want to
see more of them. (Photo courtesy of https://audiotree.bandcamp.com/album/low-cut-connie-audiotree-live)
