Shortline - Black Water Bar, Portland OR - January 6, 2017

[Portland OR] Portland has been really good at dropping me into “it’s-our-first-show!” This band also had black “we’re-super-young!” Xs sharpied on their hands. As well as all the endearing enthusiasm and nervousness of a first show. They did good. My favorite part was when the beautiful thick guitarist with a tight-curl flyaway bob finally yelled at the flighty little skinny lead singer to hold her guitar away from the amp to stop the feedback – it quickly became clear who was in charge. The lead signer was adorable – typical neo-punk (fake mohawk, non-descript clothing) – slightly cross-eyed – tiny – her voice wasn’t great but she could get better. She favored the high-pitched singsing a la Delta 5, maybe The Slits. They were 3 guitars and a drum – one of the guitarists was a skinny eager boy – the drummer was a green-hair-capped wiser-than-them-all female. Their music was melodic groovy punk.
