Black Mountain - McMenamins Mission Theatre - March 12, 2017

[Vancouver, British Columbia] I had it in my head that I looove this band. They’re great but I think they’re part of a Blood-on-the-Wall / Blood-Brothers trifecta of bands I conflate. I was dreaming of super heavy drone psych-metal – not so much … though you wouldn’t know it from all the head-nodders in the crowd. They’re super 70s – super Led Zeppelin – nothing wrong with that. But they’re also a little Dream Theatre – especially when the girl (who is absolutely lovely in her superior-stoic earth-goddess/demon stance and Shifrer hooded-eyes) sings – very dramatic and even a little operatic. When the older guy sings, though, they send me to hazy lemon yellow summer days.
