Kory Quinn & The Quinntessentials - Landmark Saloon, Portland OR - November 18, 2017

[Portland, OR] I loved this band – maybe only because they were such perfect country in a city where you don’t get that very often. It’s possible I would have turned my nose up in Austin – but the main guy’s voice and spirit are spot on. Plus they were ok with the sound right away (know that the sound guy was generally very dedicated and cute with his awkward ways). The main guitarist/vocalist had a straight country look/sound – the others were more 70s hippies. There was somebody on accordion/harmonica, two guitars, a bass guitar, and drums. The crowd grew exponentially. They were americana, Drive by Truckers, classic rich folk (like One Tin Soldier), and then some songs were super throwdown. With all the country surroundings, I got to comparing Portland and Austin like I’m wont to do and decided Austin is more alternative in general – I maintain a list now of these differences. Because I’m insane. It got really live and I got really frustrated that there WASN’T NARY A TWO-STEPPER IN THE VICINITY. There was a Silent Jay lookalike walking around, to my delight.
