[Portland
OR] I was open and receptive, flush with the success of the first band, expecting
exponential band goodness. This band was … challenging. My first thought was
Van Morisson danced up – which isn’t really bad or good, no judgement. They’re
a bass guitar, two guitars, and a drum. The bear in an unassuming t-shirt sings
in an incongruous soprano. But the standout in the band is the bass player – he’s
really really good with his bass fingering – and joyous and fey and wacky - I don't mean this to sound as good as it does. There
was some Shins, Hidden Cameras. I think they referenced D&D at one point??
Ultimately, they were way too unorganized and free jazz for me. Charitably, I’ll
genre them chamber pop, jazz rock, noise pop.
