Deathlist - Valentine's, Portland OR - February 15, 2020

[from Portland, OR] A stunner. I was instantly smitten. No stage presence because, fuck us, the audience. And we welcomed and embraced her abuse. As she took the stage in her mellow gothness – I’m not even sure she had any black makeup on - whispers ran through the crowd about her legendary history as a music facilitator. Jenny Logan, a former lawyer and co-founder of XRAY.fm. She’s 80s quiet slinky goth like Mortal Coil. I thought of Portishead first but she’s quieter and spookier. And ridiculously simple. Who shows up as a one-person band? Maybe I would have reacted differently if she wasn’t her but, as her, it felt brave. And the simplicity was meditative. I even remember her songs and her sound, which never happens. “I'm so high I have to go home. I'm so high I can't be alone.” I don’t really know how to explain it except to say I was smitten.... I plan to be with Townes Van Zandt once we are able to meet in the afterlife. So I’d recently watched the documentary on Blaze Foley, his drunken pal. Blaze turned my head when he told his Jewish girlfriend “well, darlin’, all wild things are shy” – reminded me of BrightShards, myself, and, tonight, Jenny Logan.
